O Jardim Botânico de São Paulo localiza-se no bairro Água Funda, na Zona Sul da cidade e estado de São Paulo, no Brasil.É construído no interior do Parque Estadual Fontes do Ipiranga uma zona de preservação da Mata Atlântica.
Desde 1893 o governo passou a desapropriar as propriedades na região no intuito de preservar as nascentes do Rio Ipiranga e a área da Mata Atlântica. Em 1917 a região era propriedade do governo e passou a chamar-se Parque do Estado, as águas das nascentes foram utilizadas até 1928 para abastecer o Bairro paulistano do Ipiranga. Em 1938 com a criação do Departamento de Botânica (atual Instituto de Botânica), o Jardim foi oficializado. Já em 1969 a área de preservação, passou a chamar-se Parque Estadual Fontes do Ipiranga, substituindo a antiga denominação Parque do Estado.
The Botanical Garden of São Paulo is located in the district Water Foundation in the southern area of the city and state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is built inside the State Park Fontes do Ipiranga an area of preservation of the Atlantic Forest. Since 1893 the government began to expropriate the properties in the region in order to preserve the headwaters of the Rio Ipiranga and area of the Atlantic. In 1917 the area was owned by the government and has called the Park of the State, the waters of the springs were used until 1928 to supply the district of Ipiranga Sao Paulo. In 1938 with the creation of the Department of Botany (now Institute of Botany), the Garden was official. Already in 1969 the area of preservation, has called the Fontes do Ipiranga State Park, replacing the former name of the State Park.
